04/06/2004: "Rent - the concert - Gala Fundraising Celebration 1st August"

Three clients Damien Flood, Debbie Kurup and Jason Pennycooke are confirmed (so far) to appear at this very special event.
RENT, written by the late Jonathan Larson, the cult musical inspired by Puccini's 'La Boheme', is back – for one night only! On Sunday 1 August, Millfield Arts Centre presents a gala celebration fundraising concert of the hit show RENT.

RENT is one of the most dynamic and vibrant pieces of contemporary musical theatre to have been produced in recent years. Its musical influences range from rock to blues, gospel, soul and tango. Millfield’s production features all the fantastic songs from the show. The Arts Centre is extremely fortunate to have been granted the rights to mount this concert. The show will not be seen again in Britain for at least five years. So, RENT-heads everywhere, make for Millfield!

With a cast drawn from the recent touring and West End production, RENT – the Concert will capture the very special experience of seeing RENT live. Edmonton-born actress Debbie Kurup, will recreate the role of Mimi, Jason Pennycooke will play Angel and Damien Flood will recreate the role of Roger. Further exciting details of the confirmed cast will be made available shortly.

RENT – the Concert is the realisation of a long held dream for Nick Mowat, Millfield’s General Manager: “Rent is such a fantastic show musically, that staging a concert performance will hopefully enable us to raise a large sum for the theatre and at the same time give people the chance to hear an incredibly strong company sing a brilliant score.”
