31/08/2005: "Gerard McCarthy in the mood for love with Casanova"

Gerard is currently working with Vivien Ellis Prize Winner Philip Godfrey on the workshop of Casanova.

A new piece based on the memoirs of Italy’s most famous ladies man in which Gerard has the joy of playing the infamous title role. Set in the mid 18th Century, with tongue firmly in cheek, the piece is narrated by Old Casanova as he is writing his autobiography ‘The Story of My Life’. In Casanova, Godfrey has extracted the most eccentric, hilarious and sometimes unbelievable of Casanova’s memoirs and used them as a foundation on which to build this witty new musical.

Still in development stages, Casanova is a highly entertaining piece that is bursting with humour, vitality and character

Gerard was previously seen on stage in the West End in the cast of Saturday Night Fever at the Apollo Victoria theatre and in Mamma Mia at the Prince Edward theatre.

His other theatre credits include T.S. Eliot’s Murder In The Cathedral (St. Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast); the original cast production of On Eagle’s Wing (Odyssey Arena, Belfast); Scott Thorson in Call Me Lee (New End Theatre, London) and The Son in the workshop production of Conor Mitchell’s Good Friday Trilogy (Bridewell Theatre, London).
