19/01/2007: "Nicola Hughes receives Olivier nomination."

In the "Best Actress in a Musical" category for her role as Bess in Porgy and Bess.

Nicola’s many leading roles in the West End include Zarita in SIMPLY HEAVENLY at the Trafalgar Studios; Velma Kelly in CHICAGO at the Adelphi Theatre; Lola in DAMN YANKEES at the Adelphi Theatre, playing opposite Jerry Lewis; Donna Douglas in THE GOODBYE GIRL at the Albery Theatre; The Acid Queen in The Who’s TOMMY at the Shaftsbury Theatre and Margie in CRAZY FOR YOU at the Prince Edward Theatre and FOSSE at the Prince of Wales Theatre, for which she was also nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

Porgy and Bess (which also has Jason Pennycooke as Choreographer) was nominated in the Best New Musical Category.

Avenue Q (which stars Julie Atherton as Kate Monster/Lucy the Slut) was also nominated in the Best New Musical Category.

Cabaret (which includes Kaisa Hammarlund as first cover Sally Bowles) is nominated as Outstanding Musical Production up against Sunday in the Park with George in whick Kaisa also appeared.

Wicked (which has Katie Rowley Jones as Nessarose) has nominations for Best Set, Lighting and Costumes.

Congratulations to all. Winners of the 31st annual Olivier Awards will be announced on Sunday, 18 February 2007 in a star-studded ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.
