17/07/2007: "Nicola Hughes cast in "ROCK RIVALS"."

Nicola has been cast in a regular role in a new ITV drama being produced by Shed Productions in conjunction with Simon Cowell.

Nicola will play Sundae Gorgeous- a Feisty ex-disco diva turned vocal coach and best friend to Karina Faith played by Michelle Collins. ROCK RIVALS, is a fictional look behind the scenes of a blockbuster TV talent show and Simon Cowell will be on hand to make sure the drama is as true to life as possible. The series will be shot over the summer and delivered to ITV in late Autumn.

Nicola recently completed a critically acclaimed run in the leading role of Bess in the premiere of a brand new £3 million musical production of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, specially adapted and directed by Trevor Nunn.

Nicola was nominated as "Best Actress in a Musical" in the 2007 Laurence Olivier Awards. for her role.

Nicola’s many leading roles in the West End include Zarita in SIMPLY HEAVENLY at the Trafalgar Studios; FOSSE at the Prince of Wales Theatre, for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical; Velma Kelly in CHICAGO at the Adelphi Theatre; Lola in DAMN YANKEES at the Adelphi Theatre, playing opposite Jerry Lewis; Donna Douglas in THE GOODBYE GIRL at the Albery Theatre; The Acid Queen in The Who’s TOMMY at the Shaftsbury Theatre and Margie in CRAZY FOR YOU at the Prince Edward Theatre.
